WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Chase Utley robbed Jose Vidro of a base hit.
Chase Utley went yard and had 2 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the
Washington Nationals by the score of 3 to 2 at Citizen's Bank
Park.
Washington was unable to recover after Philadelphia went ahead in the 7th
inning scoring one runner on 3 hits. Ryan Howard lashed a single. Tomas
Perez got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. After another out,
Michael Tucker stepped in and he hit a single. Jimmy Rollins was up next and
he smacked a single scoring the run. Washington had a chance in the 9th but
they came up short.
Brett Myers(9-2) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Myers
was helped out by Billy Wagner who recorded his 21st save. The loss was
charged to Gary Majewski(4-5) in relief. He gave up 6 hits and no walks in 1
and 2/3 innings.
'Some losses are harder to take than others' Frank Robinson lamented after the
game. 'This was one of them.'
