beat the Oakland Athletics in 13 innings by the count of 10 to 5.

The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings. Philadelphia was victorious in
the 13th inning. The critical plate appearance was by Lieberthal who
deflated the crowd as he caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam
homerun (his 9th of the season). Philadelphia had 12 hits for the night.

Ryan Madson(6-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Huston Street(1-4) was hit with the loss in relief. He was knocked
around, surrendering 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Lieberthal said.

Brett Myers dominated striking out 10 Seattle batters and Mike Lieberthal
smashed 2 homeruns as the Seattle Mariners were badly beaten by the
Philadelphia Phillies, 18 to 1.

Lieberthal was unconscious out there. While Seattle pitching was serving
softballs up there for him to hit, the Seattle fans were serving up some
hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel
for the fire. He lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 3rd
inning and caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun (his 8th of
the season) in the 6th inning. Philadelphia bats were hot in the 1st inning
with 5 runs on 5 hits and the 6th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits.
Philadelphia simply wore out the Seattle pitching staff, scoring in 6
different innings.

Myers(7-2) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. The losing pitcher
was Gil Meche(4-5). He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered 4 hits and 1
walk.

Myers was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I
just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'

Jake Peavy struck out 13 batters as the San Diego Padres defeated the
Cleveland Indians by a score of 8 to 0 at Petco Park.

Brian Giles had a good day at the plate. He doubled plating a run in the 1st

Elarton(2-3). He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs in 2 and 1/3
innings.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Peavy - except Cleveland. Eric
